- Online Application: complete and submit District III (Gainesville, Alachua County) application (includes photo and bio). Submission deadline is January 31, 2025. 12:00 a.m (by 11:59pm EST).
- Application fee: $40.00.
- Teacher’s fee (if applicable): FSMTA members who renewed their membership before October 1, 2023 pay no fee. All other teachers are required to pay $40 non-member fee.
Other rules:
- Teachers may accompany any entrant.
- At least one copy of the repertoire, unmarked except for measure numbers, shall be presented to the judges. All entrants must abide by the federal Copyright Law. Photocopies are strongly discouraged. Entrants using photocopies or PDFs downloaded from the Internet may be asked to complete the Music Release Form verifying that they have permission to use this music. Should a contestant have a bona fide reason for using a photocopy, he must notify the competition chairman in writing in advance of the competition.
- Audio or video recording and photography of the competitions and winners concerts are strongly discouraged.
- Three judges having no connection with any student entered will audition students on performance. All decisions of the judges are final and will not be subject to further review. Judges have the right to declare no winner.
- Incomplete applications or submissions that do not follow the above rules may result in the participant’s disqualification without refund. All questions should be email to [email protected] prior to submitting an application.

The FSMTA Concerto Competition is a two-stage competitive event. All applicants must first apply and compete at a District level. Deadline to apply for District III Concerto Competition is January 31.
District Concerto winners (with the exception of the Elementary category) are obligated to represent their Districts and compete in the State Concerto Competition.
Instrumental categories of contestants are as follows: Piano, Organ, Voice, Brass, Woodwinds, Percussion, and Strings (including Harp).

The teacher must enter all of his or her participating students in a district in which he/she is a member of a local MTA. If a teacher is a member in more than one district, the student has to enter in a district where the student resides. The contestant must be a Florida resident. Exceptions may be given to students residing more than 100 miles radius from the location of the live event.
For non-members district affiliation is based on the physical location of the teacher’s studio. If the teacher’s studio is located outside of Florida, the student must enter in the District where he/she legally resides.

- Elementary, 12 years and under (this is a special entry level which takes place only at the District competition. This level exists to provide opportunities for adjudication of students not yet ready to compete in the Junior level. These winners do not proceed to the State competition.)
- Junior, 12 years and under
- Intermediate, 13–15 years
- Senior, 16–19 years. Senior entrants must not have graduated or taken the GED and must be enrolled in a high school program. Dual enrollment students are eligible.

- Any student entrant must have studied an instrument or voice with the same teacher for at least six consecutive months prior to the competition.
- District Concerto winners of each level, with the exception of the Elementary category, are obligated to represent their Districts and compete in the State Concerto Competition. The dates and details can be found on the FSMTA Competitive Events page.
- If any District winner becomes unable to compete in the State Competition, the District and State Concerto Competition Chairpersons must be notified immediately.
- The application process at a District level is not complete until you have submitted the application form and submitted your check or electronic payment.
- The teacher is responsible for completing and electronically submitting this application. All rules must be followed otherwise the application will be disqualified if not corrected by the deadline. All questions should be directed to the District Concerto Competition Chair prior to the deadline. All fees are non-refundable.
